For those in need of a last minute Halloween costume, Broadway.com asked which character from a current Broadway production would make for the best get-up come October 31. Looks like readers know their enemy, and want to dress like him too! American Idiot's sadistic drug dealer St. Jimmy, played by Tony Vincent, landed the top spot with 29% of votes. For those hoping to capture Jimmy's look you'll need a black tank top, skinny black leather pants, a leather jacket...and you'll have to shave half your head! The Green Day-centric show is even celebrating Halloween with an extra Friday night performance on October 29.
Second place goes to a character already popular on Halloween night, thanks to her previous film, TV and comic appearances. The Addams Family's Morticia, played by Bebe Neuwirth, earned 23% of votes. Requirements for embodying Morticia include a flowing black wig and a form-fitting black or dark purple dress.
With all that dress-up required on Halloween, you know the inhabitants La Cage aux Folles' drag club are fans of the holiday, especially queen diva Zaza. The glamorous performer, played by Tony winner Douglas Hodge, took in 14% of votes for a third place finish. With Zaza's frequent and elaborate costume changes, it's hard to recommend just one ensemble...but stick with big wigs, lots of glitter and feathers, and you'll be safe!
With her fluffy owl coat, Promises, Promises resident boozehound Marge MacDougall flew into fourth place with 10% of votes. The comedic lush, played by Broadway newcomer Molly Shannon, sports black leggings, black gloves, a pink polka dot dress and one very furry coat. Two-time Tony winner Patti LuPone's newest Broadway role, Lucia, from the soon-to-open Women on the Verger of a Nervous Breakdown, rounded out the poll in fifth place. The revenge-seeking, leopard print-loving lunatic earned 7% of votes.
Thanks for voting. Now get to work on those costumes, and be sure to check back on Broadway.com for a photo gallery of reader-submitted Broadway-themed Halloween finery!
